“Hakudō” is a Kyoto fan brand created by [Sanbu Senpo] and foil artisan Yoshito Yonehara.
It utilizes a burnt foil technique that makes use of the chemical changes of silver. The technique involves stretching raw silk into a spider-web-like pattern, applying foil on top, and then removing the silk to leave the imprint, known as the “momi-oshi” technique, which finishes the entire fan surface with foil.
The weighty appearance makes it suitable for use in any season.
The fan has a narrow width, and the ribs have a larger shape known as “tanji,” with a total of 45 ribs, which is more than typical designs.
The tanji shape allows for a wide opening and fits comfortably in the hand, making it easy to fan. Additionally, the flexibility of the ribs makes it easier to create airflow.
It comes with a fan pouch.
