This item, made from Kyoto pottery (Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki), features seasonal flowers (plum, cherry blossom, Clematis, and Japanese bush clover) painted on a gentle ceramic surface that retains the color of the clay.

The design is a key point that can be enjoyed year-round. It is shaped on a potter's wheel, undergoes bisque firing after applying white slip, receives a transparent glaze after the underpainting, and is finally fired at a low temperature with red and gold accents.

The ceramic surface, which is slightly grayish, exhibits faint shades of orange and pink. This is known as “Gohonde,” a result of a chemical reaction when trace amounts of iron in the clay oxidize in the kiln.

Pottery is absorbent and breathable, and the more you use it, the more character and texture it develops. Before use, soak it in lukewarm water to help the clay absorb moisture, which will make it less prone to tea stains and blemishes.

Dishwasher use is generally acceptable; however, for thin plates that may move around, hand washing is recommended to prevent chipping from contact with other items.

Microwave use: Not allowed (gold can turn black at high temperatures).
